AstraZeneca is in the business of making a meaningful difference to patient health, of helping to ensure that those who can benefit from our medicines are provided access to them, building deep and lasting connections with our many stakeholders, and honoring the countless ways we are connected and united through health.
Our commitment to responsible business runs deep, shaping and guiding our daily decision making. “Acting responsibly and with integrity lies at the heart of our business,” says David Nicoli, U.S. Vice President, Corporate Affairs, AstraZeneca. “It’s the only way to operate; the only way to meet the expectations we have of ourselves and earn the trust of those with whom we partner.”
Numerous organizations have taken notice of our passion and commitment to maintaining our status as an environmental, social, and economic sustainability leader— something you will see throughout this report.
A member of the DJSI since 2001, we continue to be ranked amongst the sustainability leaders in the pharmaceuticals sector and are members of both the DJSI World (the top 10 percent of the biggest 2,500 companies) and the DJSI STOXX (European) Index (the top 20 percent of the 600 largest European companies). In the 2010 Index, we achieved a total score of 81 percent (84 percent in 2009) compared with a sector best score of 87 percent. We increased individual scores for 9 out of 23 criteria (compared to 14 out of 24 criteria in 2009).
